How to Make a Healthy Baked Tortilla Shell

Ahhh….a healthy salad, held together by a beautiful, edible golden bowl. The problem is, you’re not getting much nutritional bang for your calories buck with that deep fried shell. To the tune of 280 calories and 16 grams of fat with not much nutritional benefit…and that’s without any filling. The average fried tortilla shell that cradles your taco salad is void of pretty much anything good for you, but there’s hope! You can still make it crispy and delicious by baking it and opting for a better-for-you tortilla that’s full of whole or sprouted grains, gluten-free, loaded with chia or flax, veggie-filled and the other delicious variations I’m seeing come out on the market everyday.

Watch the video and give it a try and home. They bake up in a flash and taste great when you season them with a little ground cumin, paprika or turmeric – which all have amazing health benefits, too.

When you’re done, fill these beauties with brown rice and your favorite beans or assorted grilled veggies like zucchini, yellow squash and red cabbage, a few slices of avocado and/or cubed chicken breast with a squeeze of lime and you’ve got a delish meal, fast.

Tell me what you think!
