FIT FOOD FOR THOUGHT!
The Huffington Post featured me and Eat Cleaner in a piece this past week about eco-entrepreneurs. They talked about my all-natural, biodegradable food wash + wipes and my daily cooking segment on Facebook Live.
Check out the feature in The Huffington Post here!
The thing that got me the most was, they talked about my energy and time management. I’m a single mom juggling a business, kids and everything else, and I have figured out how to save an enormous amount of time and my sanity while still keeping my energy high!
This all got me thinking, people make so many excuses to NOT live a fit foodie lifestyle, and I wanted to talk you through some of the most common excuses out there and encourage you all to say, NO MORE EXCUSES!
Here are the TOP 10 excuses people make:
1) I don’t have time
We have a finite number of hours a day but what are we prioritizing? It should be the things that make us healthier, happier and stronger, mentally and physically. An efficient workout can be had in 20 minutes! I bet you can carve that time out to feel like a million bucks. If it means getting up earlier that your family, that’s the ticket.
2) I don’t know where to start
This is a common one, especially if you don’t have a plan. The best way to get started is with your food intake, and cleaning up your diet. Over 80% of your success is in the kitchen. Check out our Eat Cleaner Meal Prep Club
for a sound nutrition approach that’s easy to follow to kick start your program. Fail to plan, plan to fail.
3) I don’t have the energy
The toughest part is getting started, but once you do, you’ll be amazed at how much energy you’ll create for yourself. Just start and give yourself permission to stop and start again if you need it. Commit to 10 minutes, then 15, then 20 and build on the steam engine momentum. And reward yourself with something you love when you’ve accomplished your goals – like a candle, pedicure or a square of dark chocolate 🙂
4) My family won’t eat that
I’ve got the pickiest eater on the planet in my household, and I’m telling you, there’s an art to getting him to eat better. It often comes in the form of cleaning up their their favorite dishes, like Mac n Cheese, Spaghetti and meatballs, tacos, nachos, quesadillas – and even brownies and ice cream. Every single one of these dishes can get a ‘rehab’ to healthy. Just watch my favorite videos
from when I was a featured chef on the Emmy-nominated show Recipe Rehab.
5) I don’t know how to cook
Join the club! Not a lot of people do, which is why I created my K.I.S.S. approach – keep it super simple with smart swaps. You can catch me on Facebook Live Monday-Friday teaching you how to make a simple dish that’s clean, affordable and family-friendly. You can’t mess these up, I promise! There’s a whole Fit Tribe there waiting to join you in your journey and root you on. Just LIKE
our Facebook page to get the notifications.
6) I loathe exercising
Fitness doesn’t have to happen in a gym. It’s just movement, so what do you love? Is it dancing? Or Stand-up paddle boarding? Or jumping rope? Whatever you love, do it. Find your soulmate workout and love it for life. There are so many different activities to pick from. For inspiration, check out some of our favorites, like Natalie Jill Fit, Chalene Johnson, and R.I.P.P.E.D, which you can do in your own home.
7) I don’t want to sacrifice the foods I love
You don’t have to! I’m telling you, everything you love can be modified. Once you start eating cleaner, your tastebuds change, and they actually enjoy greens and crave leaner foods. We have a free ebook to get you started, and it’s called the Clean Eating Handbook
It contains some of my favorite recipes from Recipe Rehab and 31 basic approaches to cleaning up your diet.
8) I’m too old for this
Uh, are you kidding me? How about my friend who just finished her first marathon at 71? Or my amazing FIT friend who decided to do her first triathlon and never exercising in her life? You are only as old as you are in your mind. Find an accountability partner who gets you off the couch and moving – and get those silly ‘old’ thoughts out of your head. Baby steps. My favorite thing is cartwheels at the beach – and I’m 47.
9) I don’t have to worry about it, I’m thin, young and here for the party
Ever heard of the term ‘Skinny Fat’? Just listen to my podcast featuring Aurora Colello
and listen to her story. She was always thin, never had a problem with her super unhealthy diet. And then one day, she went blind in one eye and found out she had MS. It can happen to anyone. Being thin doesn’t mean you’re healthy, and wrecking yourself with booze and bad food will catch up with you in some way, shape or form. Start honoring your body now. You have to live in it the rest of your life.
10) I tried, but I didn’t see results
There is a famous book called The Compound Effect
. Every little thing you do towards your health is building your strength and vitality from the inside out. You’ve got to stick with it to see the results. Not everyone is built the same and will shed the weight in the same manner, so stop comparing yourself and love everything that’s happening to YOU. If you set yourself up for failure with unrealistic expectations, you will get discouraged. Just get the right plan, give it time and stay true to your (hopefully realistic) goals.
Overall, I wanted to address some of the top excuses made and share how you can overcome each and everyone of them!!! Try to make a small change today and remember that even baby steps is progress towards a happy, healthy, fit foodie lifestyle!
