Don't freak - take action! My letter to the Wall St. Journal - Eat Cleaner® Fruit & Vegetable Wash and Wipes

A Passion for a Healthy Lifestyle

Wash or wipe your apples with EAT CLEANER to help remove wax that can trap pesticide residue.

Do you know someone in your life who loves to come to you with problems but never wants to hear about a solution that could actually help them?  Well, that’s how I feel when I read the latest release from the USDA on pesticide residue on apples.

On the heels of the E.coli outbreak, I wish I could just scream STOP FREAKING OUT AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!! and everyone around the world would hear.  Or at least read this blog.

Produce comes from the ground, yes, but it is very safe if it is cleaned properly…like with EAT CLEANER.  If no solution is offered to consumers, as is the case with this latest campaign, it will kill the apple industry and encourage consumers to look for other (gasp) processed and unhealthy alternatives.  There’s nothing purer and more nutritious than gifts from nature, so why are we turning everyone off of them?

The fact is, you can wash away a good majority of pesticide residue if you really WASH it.  Not a 10 second rinse with water like the USDA did.  And did they get samples that were already waxed?  If so, they may as well rubbed the apples on their pant leg.

When I read the article in the Wall St. Journal about this yesterday, I felt compelled to write the journalist, Scott Kilman.  Here’s my email:

Hi Scott – I read your article on pesticide residues on apples and I’d like to suggest we offer a solution to readers rather than turning them off of one of nature’s best snacks.

The problem with the USDA and other government agencies is they suggest rinsing produce with water.  In their test, they rinsed samples for 10 seconds??? For one, water is ineffective in removing bacteria; two, most produce is waxed to preserve freshness, sealing in pesticides and; three, pesticide residue largely accumulates on the surface of fruit.

We developed EAT CLEANER®, an all natural wash and wipes lines that effectively removes these residues safely and effectively using food grade ingredients like citric acid and coconut oil, while extending shelf life.  So you can bring home produce, wash and dry it and put it back in the fridge so it’s ready to eat when you are.

As a mom of two and the co-founder, with my father Dr. Shawki Ibrahim, Professor Emeritus and M.S. Agriculture, I believe we need to help make fresh produce more appealing.  Instead, these types of articles with no solution just create fear and confusion.  I actually read a blog entry that said she would continue to eat more processed snacks in exchange for fruit.  Is this really the message we want to put out there?

We’d be happy to share our research and findings with you.  I look forward to hearing from you.

My best,

Mareya Ibrahim
